I bought a 1984 O'Day 222, that lacked the stainless steel compression brace. I have since purchased a brace, but am not sure how or what to mount it to.

compression post

look under where the tabernacle is mounted. If it is anything like my 23 Oday there should also be solid location on the floor atraight down from the top.

Rod Johnson,

222 is different

The stainless-steel "compression post" on the 222 should bolt to the inside of the cabin top using the bolts for the tabernacle (may need longer bolts) and then apparently bolts to the main bulkhead on the side towards the V-berth. I'm surprised that Rudy did not include instructions when he sold the part to you, unless you were able to find another source for this part. I will post a web-site below that has a 222 brochure including a pic of the S/S post in place. Look for the link to "model info", I think. Calling Rudy is still a good idea, he should be able to send you a sketch of how the post is mounted. (508) 644-3001, fax (508) 644-3002

Thanks Ron!

Have been dealing with Rudy since September of last year regarding this brace. Got it from him, but he doesn't seem to have any engineering drawings on how EXACTLY it mounts. He's still checking. I've always suspected that it mounts as you described, but the angles of the mounting pads on the brace suggest that there may be another piece or two needed to complete the job. I really could use a photo or talk with someone who has a 222 with a brace installed
