Oday 22 cockpit drain

I just picked up a 1980 Oday 22. The problem is the cockpit drain. The thru hull in the transom is just a hole. There are some threads in the hole and what looks like old rubber gasket. The floor drain plugs up but I don't think it is hooked up to anything. How do you fix all this properly.

You may be missing the hose that runs from the cockpit drain to the transom - grab a flashlight and crawl down the port side bunk all the way back - you should see a hose running from the cockpit to the transom - if it isn't there you will have to replace it. Hope that helps and congrats on the new boat.

Hi,

You probably need to get a through hole. I replaced mine on my 1978 oday 22 and was pleasantly surprised to find the exact original was available. Perko makes them, though I don't have the part # at the moment, I can get it for you. I also got hose of the proper diameter at the auto parts store, as well as stainless clamps. I used 2 clamps on each thru hole. It's worked like a charm. To gain easier access to this area, I installed a Beckson plate 6" at rear of cockpit. A bit daunting to make that hole in the boat. Reply to this post, and I'll put up pictures of this.

I also cut a hole and put in a 8" beckson plate. I hated to cut the hole but could see no other option on my 22'.
Has anyone tried a 90 degree thru hull for the floor drain.There is one made by Whitecap on page 109 of my Defender Catalogue. That might ease the bend in the hose. I'm going to try it in the spring.
