I own a 22 foot 1975 Oday Fixed Keel. The sail has no reef points. To reef I have to twist the boom several times and the sail wraps to the boom thereby shortening the sail area. I have not tried this. I am concerm that the goose neck will not be able to take the load and twist off, due to wind presure since when reefing is need the wind is blowing hard. Any Oday owners with this kind of boom reefing style who has tried it. Will the goose neck be able to take the load.

I had a 1973 O'22 with same setup. It's horrible to try and use!!! You can't use the boom vang to get good sail shape (which is distorted anyways as you roll up the mainsail on the boom).....you're better off having a sailmaker add reef pionts on your main and getting jiffy reefing for the boat... my .$.02

Tha goose neck will handle it.
My first boat was a 22, and I owned it for several years. The reefing system is sound though a pain to use. As stated it doesn't allow for use of the vang, and sail shape fis poor. But as to the ability of the system to take the loads, it will. It does have it's flaws, and a slab system is much easier and I think a better system, well worth the expense.imho

i have a 73 o'day with the same reefing system, and I rather like it. You have to be sure you put a gather in the back of the sail before you start to reef, also if you roll up your sailbag in your reef (leaving your drawstrings hanging out) it will give you a vang attachment point.
