I am a new owner of a 1975 Oday 20, that was on a trailer in parts. I have managed to get it all together with the exception of not knowing or seeing how or where a boom vang would have gone or did it not have one at all? Do owners add topping lifts to these boats if so any tips on doing that. I can see that a topping lift would be a real benefit.

Vang/Lift

Ruben - It would not surprise me if your boat did not have a vang from new. I'd want to add one, though. Its simple enough to put bails on the mast and boom, and you can buy the appropriate blocks at any Marine store. I wouldn't bother with the kits unless they're on special or something - no reason to pay someone else to put stuff in a bag for you. Topping lift is easy to do. I'd make it adjustable, but lots of people on similar boats have a fixed line. I would be concerned about long term chafe on the sail, though. If you affix a small block at the masthead, you can adjust the topping lift with a cleat on the mast. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
