I think that the centerboard on our "new to us" 1976 O'Day 20 is not extending fully - she does not point into the wind as well as I think she should, and there appears to be quite a bit (1 1/2 feet or so) of the "centerboard lowering rope" rope remaining in the cockpit when I try to lower the centerboard. Short of hoisting the boat out of the water, or swimming under the boat (it is in a lake that is a water supply, so no swimming) are there any tricks to seeing if the board has swung down completely? I have toyed with the idea of trying to get a rope under the boat from one sidestay to another, between the "lowering rope" and the centerboard itself, and trying to pull it towards the bow, but am not sure if this would do anything. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
