O'day 192 woes....all for not, but ty for the help

We just purchased an '87 192. The boat is in good shape, it was owned by one family it's entire life.

We bought the boat with a New Jersey title and registration, we live in PA. Transferring the title was easy, registering it is becoming a challenge. I am unable to find a capacity plate on the vessel. They need max. people, max. load, max. HP etc. Am I not looking in the right place for this information? Does anyone have this information for my boat?

Thanks,

Bill

Hey Bill, don't you love it when these jerky bureaucrats try to throw their weight around? :D Go to this site http://www.iheartodays.com/model_information.html and click on the model O'Day 192.
It says that the boat has a transom bracket that will take up to a 6 hp outboard. It has four births so I would say it sleeps four, probably two kids in the "V" birth and two adults in the main cabin.
according to the spec sheet, the boat has a 1400 lbs displacement.

I would just make copies of these brochures and bring them with you and let them figure it out. Whatever you do Bill, don't look at these people cross eyed. :D Good luck!

Yeah, this is nothing compared to the trailer issues, but that is the Penn DOT vs. the Fish & Game Commission with the boat. We'll find a solution, one way or another.

I have the document in that link, and the original owners manual. It seems the boat is incredibly complete, sans mast step pins. We'll continue to clean and fix the little stuff until big brother says we can put numbers on her.

Thank you for your help. I'll try to get the appropriate (and expected) pics posted ASAP.

Generally, when you buy a boat with the trailer, you need to pay the sales tax on each of them or at least that's the way it is in "The People's Republic of Ma. So what I usually do is have the PO make out two separate bill of sales. That way, your local civil serpent won't hurt himself when he has to do all that laborious thinking. :D

Congrats on the boat! I own her bigger by not much, sister ship and I love her dearly. I bought her back in 1986 at the Boston Boat Show. There's a guy who has a marine store about two towns over from me who has all the O'Day parts including the boat molds. So if you need anything, he's got it. http://www.drmarine.com/ Also, I've done over 30 mods to my O'Day 222 and if you go to my picture album on this site and check it out, you may get some ideas that you can use. Feel free to use them.
Smooth Sailing!

Well after a few phone calls and finding the people with some answers, I don't need a capacity plate. So much for Monday morning info.....

Another call was to D&R to order the few missing parts from the boat. We should be ready to launch as soon as the registration arrives.

For now it's elbow grease and touch ups, hopefully we can get her wet soon.

Rudy is the go to guy for O'Day parts. Years ago, Rudy had six of those O'Day 192s built by a guy in Bristol using Rudy's mold. He called these boats the "Weekender." Four of them were shipped to Japan and one of my YC friends bought one. I don't know who bought the other one. Rudy made some big changes in this boat. He used stainless steel mast and spar extrusions and the sails were full batten sails. The "L" brackets on the bulkhead inside the cabin that hold the chain plates, also had struts attached to the bolts through the deck which provided the chain plates with extra reinforcement.
The 192 is a sweet little boat and I think you're going to like it. Good luck!
