Oceanside CA Harbor Question.

I am planning a trip up from SD, hopping up the coast to Newport, then over the Catalina for a few days. Usually make a stop at Oceanside going up reserving a guest slip from the City, one of their 34' fingers right along Harbor Dr. The guy I spoke to said he probably would have the 42' end tie available by the Jolly Roger (I'm 38'). I assume that is preferable. I am not familar with this end tie, can someone clue me in?

If you get that end tie, you will need to get the keys for the gate. It is right near the Jolly Roger. Very nice. My boat in on the G Dock. If not, even the guess slips by the office are good. I believe you will get keys to use the facilities, but there is no gate on the guess slips. People walk down there all the time, but I have never heard of issues where folks go on the boats.

If you use Google Earth you can get a great view of the dock. There is a measuring tool that allows you to measure the slips down to a fraction of a foot.
If you have never used this tool you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Brian D. Dont be too envious. You live there. I live in Phx, boat is in SD. Its a 5-6 hr drive to go sailing......

he has a lot further to go than that...... as he is serving in the armed forces in the middle east....

Take a pick between a bunch of grey heron's squawking (jolly roger) or cliche harbor rock/reggae cover band music and a little more road noise at the guest slips. I'd choose the Jolly Roger dock. Easy in/out and what I think is the best part of the harbor. But I'm biased as I'm in the D dock nearby.

Saltysailor is correct, we do live on the best side of the harbor. No tourist to contend with. :)
