Hi, I'm a new owner of a 98 Oceanis 35 and I have a question about rebedding the overhead salon dead lights. I have never done this before but from what I've read I should be able to do it. My main concern is that most of the articles I've read talk about rebedding a portlight that is vertically mounted (typically on the side of the cabin top). On the Oceanis 35 my issue is with a fixed light that is horizontal. Is there any difference in the procedure? Is there someone out there who had already tackled this project?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

My concern here is that the overhead hatchlight is going to be curved as opposed to side portlights which will be pretty much flat.

With the curved windows, it's mandatory that you use screws to hold the them in place for several months to allow the wide bead of 795 to fully cure. Drill the screw holes oversize for flexure and thermal expansion during this time. Sand all adhesion surfaces with #80 grit minimum. When you're sure the 795 has fully cured, the screws can be removed and the screw holes filed with 795. They become invisible.

On our 1999 Hunter, all port and hatch lights were installed with screws and the screws later removed. The sealed screw holes don't show unless you really look for them.

The overhead light is actually flat and flush with the deck if this helps. I will take a picture later today and add that. Thanks for the advice.

I had a small leak on the port skylight but used Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure. It stopped the leak and saved me from rebedding, for Now!
