I am installing a stereo next spring and was wondering if any 281 owners have done this. I plan on mounting the radio under the chart table but where did you mount cockpit speakers? Thanks Bill

The stereo speakers

on my Bene 40 are mounted in the aft transom space on either side of the walkthru. Not the best arrangement. The best arrangment would have been to put a sound box around both speakers, but it doesn't annoy me enough to change it.

just added an amp

Hey Bill, I decided I did not need an FM radio or CD player, so just added an amp (they are much smaller). Amp is fitted behind the electronics panel, just drilled one hole for the volume control in the panel, and have an aux input on the panel.. Marine amp is only about $60 i think.. I just use it with either an IPOD, or XM Radio. works pretty well. Speakers are small 4inch square box type from west marine, mounted behind the hand rails right where the forward bulkead is.. They work OK, little too small for great sound, but it was a compromise.. Its nice that they take up so little space. I may add another pair up on deck underneath the rail seats. I have seen that on other beneteaus and it works well without drilling any holes in the fiberglass.
