Good morning. I live in Portland, OR. I've been away from sailing for the past 15 years. My last experience was crewing a Beneteau 38 from California to Tahiti. I want to get boat for a weekend hobby - to relearn what I've forgotten and eventually gain offshore experience. My question is, where is the best place near Portland? I'm looking for a place that has a fair number of boats available and is not too far of a drive (compared to Bellingham or Port Townsend).

Thanks

Learn Sailing.

I live in Portland, Or and found that the best way to learn sailing is to go down to Harbor One and walk to the end of the pier. You will find Tom Rourck's Sailing school and the Cafe. You will find that most of the racing boats make stops at the cafe to pick up brownies and beer. The captains of these boats are ALLWAYS looking for crew members. Talk to them and they will welcome you on board. From there you are in the sailing communities and can begin to re learn all about sailing. Racing is the best way to learn sailing quick and you get a VERY in-depth knowledge of sailing. That is what I did and now I have a Beneteau Oceanis 370 that I keep in the Puget Sound area and sail into the San Juan’s all the time as well as the Oregon and Washington Coast.

Hope you fine this helpful
