I’ve read everything I can find online. Lots of “don’t bother” posts. But I understand the basic task. My 7 year old pump is starting to leak. I had already purchased new lip seals a while back so I thought I’d practice on my old original oberdorfer pump.
I got the oil side one out by tapping it with a hammer from the other side but am clueless how to get the inner one out. Here it is. There is one in there.

Not sure it it’s the right way, but I managed to get it out by destroying the carbon bearing on the water side that gave me a lip to whack the lipseal out with a screwdriver. There’s probably a couple scratches in the bearing tube but not sure that matters ver much? The new lipseal should still seal it ?

I have all the parts to rebuild the one. Should I rebuild the old one or the new one?

Here is all you would like to know about oberdorfer seal replacement
Be sure to view the album.
Let me know how it went.
Thank you. I did originally see that page, but for some reason overlooked it.
From that info, sounds like I might just try putting some lanocote on the shaft and seals of my current working one. Because I noticed it's starting to leak from the weep hole.

I think I'll also try to rebuild the old one as best I can and keep it on hand has a spare for when my current one needs to be pulled and rebuilt. It's good practice for me.

If the scratch is deep enough, the seal may not fully block the oil or water side. Since this is not a high temp part and not a wear surface, you could fill the scratch with epoxy and carefully sand it smooth. See the modified allen wrench for seal removal. BTW, replacing the carbon bearing is probably the way to go in any case. I assume that the pump shaft is completely smooth and does not have any seal grooves - if not replace that also.

My old one was probably never rebuilt. The seals and carbon bearing were really stuck in there. The shaft has wear on it too. I replaced it with a whole new pump about 6 years ago. That one is JUST starting to weep. I’m going to try some lanocote on the newer pump before I do anything with it.
I will rebuild the old pump with a new shaft, seals and bearing. It’s good practice for me.
