My outboard is not circulating water for cooling. The outgoing water is just a drip. How can I clear the cooling jet?

Um, Is The Pump Impeller OK?

If you are sure, the problem may be in the outlet for the cooling flow indicator. I know that Tohatsus, in their 2.0 to 5.0 sizes, and their generic twins, are subject to salt water clogging. My guy just drilled out to a larger size the nib that the hose attached to for more flow. Otherwise, just try running a piano wire into it to clear any deposits. Rick D.

Cooling water flow

On my Honda 4 stroke all I get is a drip as well. However, lots of water comes out with the exhaust which exits at the center of the prop. Of course you can't see this when the OB is in the water. But when it's on a sawhorse and hooked up to a hose it become obvious. It has run this way for years without issue, so I hope it's supposed to be this way. Ron s/v Hydro-Therapy

dribble dribble blow gush

Have a ten year old Honda four stroke that often closes down to a dribble from the cooling water output. For years I have simply pulled off the cover and pulled the end of the hose out of the casing where the water exits (not from the motor body). I then lean over the back of the motor, put the hose to my lips and blow repeatedly into the hose. Knock on wood... it has cleared every time and I immediately get a normal flow of cooling water again. Admittedly, it doesn't look cool or dignified, but it has worked. Cheers!
