more oar info than you could possibly need

Shaw and Tenney has an excellent website. They have a formula for determining oar length based on many factors. Their website ias at shawandtenney.com

Oars

Val, We have a H140. My wife insists on bringing paddles on board when we sail. The 140 ( and I assume the 90) is such a fine light air boat that you get movement even in the lightest breezes. I have yet to use the paddles except when real close to shore. My wife says its a male ego thing. I say when sailing, who the heck is in a rush. Carpe Diem

Oar or Paddle

Unless your 90 has oar locks you would be better off with padddles. See what works best - you may want an outboard. This is a note for Paul Housman who wrote "Oars". The Federal government requires a second means of propulsion so take the paddles as your wife requested.

Phil, Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that about the fed regs. We always carry the paddles I just refuse to use them unless absolutely the last thing. Rather sit in the sun and enjoy the day even if the movement is real slow. My wife on the other hand is pretty impatient. Paul
