Good day fellow sailors,

I hope summer has been treating you well so far? I have a quick question for O'Day 25 owners (perhaps other model might have same problem or a solution).

When anchored out, have any of you experienced a metal on metal noise (rudder pintles into gudgeons )due to the rudder moving from boat's movement? I always attach my rudder with a rope but there is still a little movement (does not take much) hence a metal to metal noise being very annoying especially overnight while sleeping. Lately I attach a Tyrap to top of rudder (on bracket where tiller and rudder attach) and it seems to do the trick. I was wondering if some of you had a plastic sleeve of some sort to avoid that friction?

Any thoughts from you sailors?

Kind regards

Pete

A Nylon washer wouldn't hurt. Obviously its an inexpensive solution to a bother.
- Just keep in mind they will wear out quickly.

I think what is making the noise is the worn hole in the gungeon. I have the same thing and plan to redrill the hole and put a bushing in it this winter if I can find the right bushing. You may try bending the gungeons so that there is constant contact to the pintel. I would bend the lower bar of both gungeons up and leave the top bar the way it is. This should press the pintel against the gungeon at all times.

Thank you for both your inputs, I believe that re drilling gudgeon an adding a proper size bushing can be a good solution. Even Rudy at DR was stumped.

Thanks again and good sailing!
