I understand that the holding tank is molded into the hull of the 28.5s. I have a 1985 which I recently bought. Noticed moisture under the cushion of the aft birth. There was a bead along the edge of the access hatch to the prop shaft. It was clear to my keen sense of smell that this was leakage from the holding tank. MY question is this: Is the holding tank a fiberglass tank molded into the hull or is it some other type which is then sealed in with fiberglass? If it is fiberglass, there is no access panel at the top, or if there was, it has been glassed over. Is there any reason I could not install a guage and access panel while I mend the crack?

The crack should be mended from the inside

(Just what you wanted to hear, I'm sure)...'cuz if it's only patched on the outside, liquid will continue to seep into the fiberglass and cause BIG problems. As for installing a gauge...that's easy: the Snake River Electronics AcuGage sender goes on the outside of the tank made of any material except metal. All you need is a vertical surface. Or...you might consider forgetting both projects and installing a Lectra/San (CG certified Type I MSD that treats waste and discharges it overboard legally AND is FAR more environmentally friendly than a holding tank) instead. Why store waste aboard if you don't have to?
