NW Rendezvous

Hi all,

If I can get seats on an airplane, Laura and I can get to Seattle for
the July 1st weekend. We need to work out surface transportation
from either Seattle or Vancouver (Laura's Dad lives in Vancouver). Of
course it would be nice if we could hitch a ride with someone sailing
to Port Browning. Also, since we are not bringing Lealea we'll need
to book a hotel room. Brian, any suggestions? If not I'll just have
my travel agent deal with it.

Aloha,

Hello
Chuck:

Where
in Vancouver does Laura's dad live? I may be able to reccommend a hotel
once I know the area. When will you arrive in Vancouver? Port Browning may have
some rustic accomodation. There are camping facilities available. We may
be able to arrange a ride if our schedules match.

For
everyone else on the "wet coast" ...get the lead out and let me know if you plan
to attent the rondezvous.

Cheers

Hi Brian,

We won't need a place to stay in Vancouver. We'll stay with Laura's
Dad if we stay overnight at all. I found a B&B on N Pender that the
innkeeper says is "12 Minutes" from Port Browning. I'll do some more
checking on that. Camping is out; not because we don't like camping
but because we will be traveling light and don't want to lug around
the necessary gear.

We are hoping to be able to get flights that will put us in Vancouver
on the 28th. After we get there our first choice would be to sail
over with someone. If we can't manage that we'll take the ferry. I
don't want to hire a car if I can avoid it. Somewhere along the way
Laura wants to slip over to Victoria to visit with her girlfriend
(She will deal with that on her own). We are now trying to find the
best way to get from Hawaii to Vancouver as Laura advises me that it
will be easier to get to Pender from there than from Seattle. Aloha,

Chuck

The other option would be to go to Victoria from Seattle via Fast Cat or
plane. Good ferry connection to Pender. Although I'm only 90% sure my
schedule is going to allow my attendance at the rendezvous at this point, I
may be able to offer a sail to Pender on Lorna Doone from Victoria. Also
my wife may take the car to Pender and meet up with us rather than sail.
There's a couple of possibilities.Regards,

Gene Suess

Hello
Chuck:

Sounds
as if you are on your way. Let me know your ETA and I will try to be of service.
If the weather is good, tides are right etc.perhaps you can hitch a
ride with us. I hope we can sail over on the Friday June 29, or Sat June 30
if we have to adjust. From where we are bearthed, it is about a 6-7 hour
sail, generally on a reach.

Cheers

Gene and Brian -

Laura and I will be arriving in Seattle on UA2104 at 10:13AM on June
28th. We plan to take the Clipper to Victoria where Laura wants to
spend some time with her girlfriend. Both of us feel that any time
spent afloat is better than time spent ashore so we'd love to get a
boat ride to Pender if that can be worked out, even if we have to
cross over to Vancouver or Seattle to meet someone. I called Port
Browning and they said they will work out acommodations for us.

Looks like we're all set!

Aloha,

Chuck Rose

Dave, ss you are arriving in our town you might as well sail to Pender
with us on Lorna Doone. About to 6 to 8 hour sail. You could then if you
wanted depart from Vancouver or Victoria: your choice. Let us know if you
need a ride or accomodation in Victoria.Regards,

Hello
Gene:

Thanks
for offering Chuck and Laura an opportunity to sail with you to the
Rendezvous. If the weather and timing is in our favour , perhaps
Chuck and Laura can sail back to the mainland with Diana and I. That way
they'll have the chance of crossing the oh-so-scary, Georgia
Straight. For all of those tuned in ...As we get close to the
event, perhaps we will need to share mobile phone numbers, etc. just to ensure
that we can remain in touch during our respective crossings. Mine is (604)
240-2982, Gene's is (250) 744-0227.
Incidently, I notice that the Mid-Pacific group is
scheduling races, barbeques, etc. I sort of though I would lay on the dock like
a beached whale and get a tan. However, if anyone is motivated, creative and has
lots of ideas beside a pot-luck, home made wine, careful "you'll fall off the
dock" dinner...please feel free...

Cheers

Judy,

Count me in. And Port Browning is certainly good for
me coming from Nanaimo.

Hi Judy et al,
Add the Bear and the Mouse to your list! Just checked with Port
Browning on North Pender Island, BC (Gulf Islands) and our dates (Sept
1-3) are fine. Seems Lu is still the owner, as the most recent "sale"
of the Resort fell through at the last minute. I'll speak with the
marina manager tomorrow to see what his cut-off date for our head count
is. I have, tentatively, guessed at 10 boats but hope to hit an
all-time high for turnout! This is a GREAT chance to get to know other
Vega owners (and those who just love the breed).

Oye Mitzi et al...

I called Fulford Harbour and due to winter damage they won't know for a
week or so
if they will be able to offer transient moorage, so I guess it's Port
Browning????

I'll bring my hot water bottle, a crutch and the usual bottle of pain killer.regards

There's been a suggestion of meeting in Fulford Harbour on Salt Springs Island for the rendezvous. We haven't been in there in several years, so I'm not familiar with the marina. I have emailed them to ask about accomodations and price. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Anyone have any feedback on the marina or surrounding area?
Let's have some discussion and decide soon so we can get some reservations on the books.

Can we have a rendezvous without having roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding on Sunday night???
