Find a local rigger

I think your best bet would be to ask around and find a good rigger in your area. He might charge more than if you went mail order (say, West Marine) but you *know* it will be right and shouldn't have any problems. LaDonna

Then again...

I wouldn't trust a (so called) rigger without checking their credential and references, and perhaps even professional memberships and insurance. However, Catalina is a special case, since they are still in business, adn have an excellent parts department and technical support department. One pars guy, Gregg, owns a C-30. I bought a complete set of standing rigging for my tall rig C-36, shipped to my door, for under $700. This was forestay, backstay, two upper shrouds, and four lowers. Tough to beat the price or service. 1-818-884-7700 I've heard they are not sellign rigging anymore, which if true, is a loss. In nay event, they can send a drawing that specifies all of the lengths and sizes for your rig. See also: http://www.tcsn.net/bosun/c30/rigtune.htm for tuning the rig once you install the new wires. jv

Leaky Mast step...

You noticed a leak at the mast step. Where is the water going? Is it running inside the boat, or running in the deck core? Search this out. If it is the step you need to fix this one soon or you can have "Major" problems. I made a new tabernacle for my Cat 30. When I did I sealed it in epoxy and 4200. After that I constructed a tabernacle boot that covers the whole thing. It was easy to make and using sunbrella it matches the dodger and other canvas. (it hides the holes and wires at the base) If it is the mast step leaking it sounds like the mast will need to be stepped. But look for other sources for the leak! Don't bead silicone around things to try to stop it! " I have seen this done on other boats." It is not very seamanlike and will just be a "bandage" for the real problem.

Gee, I wish I could type!

Sorry about all the typos in my reply. Is there a way to delete or edit a reply? jv
