I am considering installing a Nova Kool R2600 frige. It is 2.4 c. ft and runs on both 12VDC and 110VAC. The specs sound pretty good and the price seems reasonable. It is supposed to be rated for both marine and RV applications. Anyone have any experience with this product.

I have always wondered why there is a need for AC/DC refrigeration units. It seems to me that a DC only unit is adequate.

I would also be somewhat suspect of a unit that was built for RV & Marine use because of rust and corrosion issues.

Steve, some people don't like to run the power through their house bank with good reason. Extended float charge on banks deteriorates the grids. That's why. NorCold used to make AC DC units, too. Don't know what happened to them.

So here's an answer to that apparent dilemma: http://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Galley/AC_fridge

I agree about the possible corrosion issues you mentioned. The skipper should check it our first before he buys it.

Here is the writeup on this refrigerator. It seems that it is normally 12VDC but you can purchase the option to have it both 12V and 110. I think I would like to be able to switch to 110 when I am on shore power rather than have it run continually on the battery bank even if the batteries are on charge.
