I have a 84' 31. I removed my compression post and it is fine. The fiberglass I-beam is not. The wood inside is bad and the forward portion is bowed or compressed. I saw an old thread where they had a plate milled to specs that connected the mast deck plate with the compression post. Can't find that link anywhere. Putting in 3 inch stainless tube as per Hunter. Any ideas about the I-beam and plate to replace the wood? Thanks as always. Jake

There was a link on the H34 site several years ago. It appears that the links are temporarily broken.

I think the best way to fix this is to remove the compression post and the bulkhead. Then you can cut the existing fiberglass/gelcoat out to expose the crossmember. The wood can be replaced with either more wood or with metal and the fiberglass/gelcoat cover can be replaced and repaired.

You would want to take extra care to remove the fiberglass and gelcoat in one or two pieces if possible to make the finished product look like the original.
