I just got an oday 22 and I have been trying to figure out the year to no avail. I have seen postings about the oday hin but they dont seem to gibe with my numbers that end with 751. My letter is 'M' so what month is that? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to buy sails/equipment for her. thanks ahead. dave

oday

Contact Rudy at D@R marine in Assonet Mass. You can find info on the web or here on this site. I would call him as he is tuff to get a response from via email. Rudy is a former employee of ODay and when they went out of bussiness he bought the molds and inventory. He is a valuable source for Oday parts and info. Good luck and happy sails!

month codes

The month codes for Oday are A to L corresponding with Jan to Dec. M is sometimes the start letter followed by the model, which in your case would likely be M22. As for the last three numbers 751, they (by standard) indicate month then year of manufacture, but O day was not building boats to my knowledge in July 1951. If my history serves me correct the first Oday was not built until 1957, although my knowledge is limited to the DS I which I thought was George ODay's first boat that he built.

Look at the code posted

All Oday boats built after November 1, 1972 (and maybe a few built before?) will have a 12-digit HIN. I don't want to repeat the whole thing that "Widgeon" posted but will hit the important points. The basic format was: XDYmccccMyyA (1973-83 model years, 1984 and later was slightly different) XDY = O'DAY (boats built during the mid 1980's may have STR) m = Model code (J = 22) cccc = Class # (how many boats of that class had been built: example, if this number were 0345, this would be the 345th boat of that class built) M = indicates Model Year Format is used yy = Model year (so M79 would be 1979 model year) A = Code for month of production. Model year was August to July, 1975 model year for instance would be Aug 1974 to July 1975. A= August, B= Sept. etc If DaveH's boat has a HIN ending in M75I (the last digit is "I" not 1) then this would be a 1975 model, built in April 1975 The complete HIN would look like: XDYJccccM75I (fill in the correct number instead of the "cccc".
