"24 Days to Hawaii in a 19-ft Boat August 15 - Hawaii Bill Teplow, who departed Berkeley Marina on July 21 aboard his West Wight Potter 19 Chubby, safely made it to the Big Island of Hawaii last night, reports Joseph Oster of www.wingo.com. Bill's wife Naiomi was there to take his dock lines. Teplow told Oster that he did lots of 100-mile days once he got to the trades, and never really had bad weather. "The boat was really tested," he said. We'll have more on this story in the September issue of Latitude 38." No one ever needs to ask again "Can my boat make it". If you can make it to Hawaaii in a 19' Potter, you can take just about any Hunter ever made!!!

Have you ever been aboard a Potter 19? I would be scared to be out in anything bigger than a pond in one of these boats.

Not Bad Time, Steve

..when you compare that with the single handed times to the islands. In fact, considering his waterline is about half the average.. or less, its really excellent time. I understand its been pretty light, so wing strength was likely in his favor. Rick D.

What's next? Guam?

Hat's off to the guy for getting it done, but the Pacific is a really big place with potential for really big waves and really fierce winds. All this talk about "testing" the boat brings to mind the question about "what happens if it flunks?" Personally, don't wanna be around if it busts the big exam!
