North Shore Lake Superior

Just returned from our two week trip to Lake Superior. We launched in the tiny village of Rossport at the top of the lake. It had been a cool, wet summer so far but warmed up the day we arrived and stayed nice the entire time. Sunny days, no rain, some patchy fog the first and last day. Temps in the 50's at night and 70's during the day. Winds were light seldom getting above 10 knots with several calm days so we spent a few days in each spot and did not travel as far or to as many places and we normally would have. I don't care to motor all day so we stay put on those days unless we have a compelling reason to move. The water was cold due to the late ice out, 44F off shore and mid 50's in the inshore areas. It had been wet, cool and foggy earlier so we got a great weather window as the rain was returning the day we packed up. We saw an abundance of blueberry and raspberry plants but everything was so late they were just starting to fruit with nothing ripe. few boats had made the trek north this year but we met a couple that we had friends in common with on a Mason 32 and two guys from Michigan on a Catalina 27.

On the "beach" at Barr Island. Off the point on the far horizon you can just make out the Slate Islands 16 miles away.

Barr Island on the "inside" has a steep sloping bottom. With the keel down the draft is 5 feet and it is well clear of the bottom.

Exploring one of the small islands that make up the St. Joe Islands with Bullers Island in a far background. The protected cove they create is known as French Harbor.

Driftwood shore fires were a common theme this trip.

Spent two days tied to the dock at CPR Slip enjoying the Sauna tucked in behind the trees.

The solar panel and autopilot were welcome new additions for this trip.

With the cold water this year wind from the southeast thru southwest was a bit chilly as it came a long distance over the water.

Once anchored and out of the wind is it was quite nice.

Those are some GREAT photos! Thanks for sharing them. I loved that night shot with the fire & moon.
