north atlantic rowing record

off sailing topic.. however just wondering how it is possible that it took over 100 years to beat the trans atlantic rowing record. with the all the advances in technology could 2 fishermen in a wooden boat be able to hold that record. perhaps their time wasn't accurately recorded for all these years?

Only Once Every Hundred Years

Or so does anyone come along crazy enough to give this a try. Pretty impressive. And their one day record of 118 miles in 24 hours. Thats an average of 5 mph for 24 hours. Hard to believe but facts is facts. I will not accuse anyone of a falsehood.
