I invite all on this board,if you agree that the poor owner of the boat that has been beached in Norfolk and being treated so inhumanely, to send an E-mail to the assistant DA in Norfolk namely one Cynthia Hall, letting her know how disgusting you find her actions to be.

The E Mail address is as follows: cynthia.hall@norfolk.gov

In delving into some info about her it seems as though there are a number in Norfolk who feel she relishes Tyranny.

Do you have a link to what is causing your rage. Tried to find a related thread but could not. It seems earlier he was unduly roasted here before the facts were out.

The owner has been jailed on a disorderly conduct charge. Meanwhile, the city has given him three days to remove his boar from the beach. While this article doesn't present him as the most sympathetic character, the city is taking an extreme position.

I'm curious to see what you all think.

Edited to correct a mis-read on my part.

Could be a topic for the war room. Lots of emotion, both pro and con, about the disabled veteran in the comments section of that story.
Personally, I'd try give to him more time to repair and hopefully refloat her.
Does that make me a "liberal"? I dislike pigeonholes.

He was Jailed for Being Drunk and Beligerant

He was cited for his boat being on the beach.

In a court of law, I believe a jury would be instructed to disregard those previous infractions, and consider the case on its own merits. JMO

Hmm, okay. The naked part, of which you wrote in your post's title is a past offense. I see you've edited your title, by the way. He certainly may have been drunk and belligerent, but not naked in this instance, and was only cited for trespassing, not for drunk and disorderly (although that may have influenced the officer's decision to arrest).

But I think the gist of the thread here is seeing a person's home become landfill fodder so callously. Almost like a bank robosigning on a foreclosure.

Guy needs a lawyer. If he and his companion bought a $140,000 boat for cash, they are not indigent. If he is retired military and disabled, he must have an income. He needs to hire a lawyer to get him and his boat out of this mess.

that may all be correct...but would not it be better if he invested his money in a salvage or retival service rather than being forced to seek legal help....come on folks it had only been a couple of days when this happened and on the week end as well ......as for the drinking thing i havent read where there was a BAC test given...and while i am on the soap box.... it seems to me that if all the police agencys in Mississippi and Texas had responded to there storm damage this way they would still be sorting out the mess in court....what ever happened to help the causaltys rather than ridacul them.....oh well as they seem to say "when a man is down kick the hell out of him"...in fairness to the system...i am sure that they are with in there legal rights and actions...but why pull the trigger so fast in this situation.....

I think he probably was belligerant at the shelter and, as his history would suggest, was probably somewhat intoxicated. That is one issue and his boat on the beach is a second, separate issue and the city is being very unreasonable about the boat.

As i understand it he FORGOT to get around to taking care of the insurance till next week and lacks the funds for salvage and after a day of sitting on a beach in a storm sea i drought there is much useful boat left and what is left is just getting buried deeper everyday

NO, he wasn't jailed because of the boat on a public beach, he was jailed for trespassing at a "homeless shelter" where his girlfriend had taken refuge and he was intoxicated. I read last night that he had made bail.

I think that the local authorities are wrong to demand he remove the boat within 3 days or they'd "cut it up". If someones home is damaged in a hurricane do they only get 3 days to repair it???

Norfolk is offering all sorts of help to people with downed trees but apparently doesn't think that boat owners deserve much consideration. No doubt that the owner made poor decisions but why not offer the guy some help?

From experiences here in our beach town, it's probably the condo people bitching and moaning that has the city pushing him so hard.
If anyone wants to start or has heard of a kitty to help these people get thier boat off the beach, I'll toss in $20.
This sounds like good free advertising for a local lawyer since it's made national news.

One of the respondents to the newspaper articles pointed out that this was a legitimate shipwreck and that there were laws controlling this. Any sea lawyers out there like to contribute? In the UK we have a "Receiver of Wreck" - normally a member of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and he/she would normally take charge of such things.
