Hi, I have a Norcold unit on my new boat that does not make any sound and much less any cooling.... the unit is probably 5 or 6 years old. I have no instruction manual and could not find any specific info on the net. Before I pay for a call out to the marina for a refrigeration repairman, I would like to make sure there is not a trick or fuse or breaker hidden somewhere I haven't tried to reset to get it going. I can get the green light on in the ice box so there is current both 12v and 110 v but no sound or fan from compressor (Black metal box). It is hard to reach and inspect where it is located so I can only see one side of it. I do not know if there is a reset button on the other side. Can someone help me with info or owners manual for it to help me troubleshoot the thing. My patience and ice in the box are both melting fast... (((-:= LOL Thanks Mario and Sylvie C'est MA VIE Hunter 29.5

Hidden Control

On my NORCOLD fridge, the small control head that adjusts how cold the unit gets and if it is on/off is hidden in the icebox way in the back and up near the top. Stick you head into your icebox and see if there is a small control box. Notice in the picture, the black wire running to the upper right hand corner of the picture -- that wire leads to the small control box.

NORCOLD reset and control

Thanks Steve, Yes I found that one in my box as well and I have a green light but no cooling. I cannot hear anything (sound or fan movement in the compressor unit) no matter what setting I dial in. I suspect it needs to be reset or there is a blown fuse or breaker on it. OR, I may need to change the compressor unit. Maybe it is dead and cheaper to replace that part only rather then repair... Mario Any advice on replacement part or info on troubleshooting the thing ?

Do you know

what model it is ?? I just bought the scqt-4407, but have not installed it yet. There is no reset button, but, there is an inline DC 12v fuse (red wire). The "manual" also says it will not work if polarity, DC or AC, is reversed. It also should be connected to two breakers, AC and 12v, on your panel.

Reversed Polarity warning

I know on my boat (1992 H28) there is a "Reverse Polarity Warning Light" on my breaker panel. If the shore power is reversed, the light tells me. Doesn't sound like that is the problem. If you know the model number of your compressor, you can use the attached link to get technical information.

Theromostat

I just looked up the technical information on my compressor. I didn't realize there were so many wires and tubes! I would check the thermostat. If the thermostat doesn't sense the icebox is too warm, it won't tell the compressor to run. On my model the thermostat is inside the little control box (I guess you could get a green light even if the thermostat wasn't working).

Owners guide

Thanks Steve and Gene ! With the info on model and the link I was able to find the owners guide and part list and installation plan on the Norcold link you send me. I went to that site before but I was looking at the wrong place for the wrong model... It looks like what I have is the SCQT-3407D model. I will start the thermostat and wiring inspection tonight and find the bug... ;) Thanks 1 Mario

Norcold uck!

I hate Norcold. I've had 3 Norcold units in my sailboat over the past 15 years and each one was a total disaster and a constant headache. They leak, they don't cool wel and most repair men hate them. Good luck as you'll sadly need it.

You have

the older model (3407) from mine (4407). I'm not sure what the differences are, but I think it's just that my compressor is enclosed in a case and yours isn't (?), at least that's what the picture showed. If you have to replace it, and you want the same thing, have WM price match Defender. You'll save $50 or more. Check that fuse.
