I believe I read and artical about nonskid repainting. I could be wrong because my memory is, well lets just say it works but not like it use to. I believe it was Ed Schenck who adds a great deal of knowledge to this site. When he repainted his old nonskid he did not sand his old nonskid. This would be a great time saver if it worked out. Ed are you out there. Perhaps you could give me a few pointers. I would welcome any help from anyone else also. Thank you Mac S/V The Rose

I did it a couple of months ago..

I did it recently using the basic West Marine nonskid paint without sanding.. I'm getting lots of compliments..I used a short roller to put it on.. A couple of tips.. There is a fine line masking tape (greenish and looks like plastic)it works better than the blue tape.. Second (experience speaking here) Don't paint within three hours of dark.. Dew got on part of mine and caused it to discolor and I had to repaint that section.. hope this helps..

Did it on both H25 and H27

We repainted the non-skid areas on both our '79 H25 and our '84 H27 by using regular Interlux topsides paint mixed with the non-skid powder granules. They look just okay - I am not real satisfied. I should have added the flattening agent to "ungloss" the paint. I am thinking of redoing the H27 by sanding down the old and building up an epoxy base - I wish there was a system for building up a patterned non-skid like on Pearsons and Catalinas.

Painted non-skid.

Actually Ed did sand first. What I think I wrote is that I did not take the old off. I did not even try to make it smooth. I sanded to make sure it was clean and the new paint could get a grip. I only have my cabin-trunk and cockpit sole and seats done so far. I might try the West Marine paint for the sidedecks. I had trouble getting a consistent mix with the Interlux. The color will be the obstacle. I used Interlux Offwhite and need to match that. Hunter also does the molded non-skid. But that is done in the build process. The pattern is actually in the deck mold and the first coat of gelcoat sprayed in is the non-skid for those sections. Hard to duplicate on an old boat unless you buy the glue-on stuff.
