Has anybody covered their worn "diamond" pattern nonskid deck or cockpit floor with the sheets of nonskid material with a diamond pattern offered for sail on the sailnet site [Simpson Lawrence Treadmaster]or a similar product? The manufacturer sells a two part epoxy to glue it down. This seems simpler than priming and painting over the old surface and mixing grit in with the paint. Also my bet would be that it looks nicer. Have you ever seen it applied?

I personally think it's hideous but I also had Cetol. ;-) Research this one thoroughly before committing cuz I've heard removing that stuff is a bear. Painting really isn't that hard of a task. Sand the non-skid area, tape it off, wipe it down with acetone, (now this is where you have options) 1) roll out small portions of paint & then shake on non-skid material from a can with holes punched in the top, let dry & apply second coat of paint only OR 2) mix the stuff in the paint and then roll on - make sure you keep it well stirred. non-skid

Your prep work will be about the same either way. Gluing down the tred-master without making a big mess will be more difficult than painting. Take a look at some boats that have had the tred-master on for a number of years; in my opinion it strarts to look shabby quite quickly. I painted non-skid on my old Hunter 25 (mixinf additive into paint) and am quite pleased with the results.

WM Non-Skid Paint, Skid-No More ??

Does anyone have experiance with West Marines Non-Skid Paint or Evercoats' Skid-No More? These "paints" appear to be some type of rubberized coating that does not use grit. Do they hold up?

Non-skid paint

I used a industrial type nonskid rubberized paint on my old hunter 27. The nonskid was very good and had wonderful gripping power. I followed directions to the letter but there was still some places that the edge would peel up. I'm not sure of the name of that stuff but they had a table at sailexpo to demo it there. It also seemed hard to keep clean, sort of like the dirt/bugs/gullpoop would almost soak into the stuff. I've been thinking about Treadmaster for my new boat, i guess i better go look at some boats with it on! howie~Freewill
