My 1981 has several areas where the nonskid gelcoat has chipped away showing the underlying fiberglass. The spots are 1/6" to 1/4" in diameter and are in several areas. What's the best way to repair them?

maybe

i have not tried this, but think it might work. this assumes that the non-skid is molded in, not painted on. try spraying a spot close to the area with pam. then prepare a molded dam around the area by using modeling clay (the area to make the mold from should not have a defect in it). fill the dam with melted wax. once that is done, abd the wax has hardened, remove the mold and thoroughly clean the entire area with acetone. spray the bottom of the wax mold with pam. now place the appropriate amount of gel coat repair material on the chipped area. place the mold over the area being careful to align the pattern on the mold with the existing deck pattern. place a small amount of the material on a piece of wax paper to use as a tell tale to know when it has cured. when cured, remove and see if it worked.

Gibco Flex-mold

Flex_mold has patterns to match the deck. It matches perfectly. However, its almost impossible to get it to mesh with the existing non-skid but when its done you don't even notice. The company is: Gibco Flex-mold Fort Worth, TX tel. 817-236-5021 A piece of it 2' X 2' for $52 which, at first, I thought was highway robbery but This stuff works great.
