FYI- In case anyone is interested in improving the performance of their fixed blade prop, you may want to contact these guys (Tim & Bob Kilian). They are the inventors of the Non-Slip Tip prop. The process takes you existing prop and the cut the tip of the blades and weld them back on a 90 degs. to form a winglet like some of the modern airplane wings. I had tried to find the Kilian's awhile back and could not locate them. I had Bob do the prop on my Hunter 34 and it made a significant difference, particularily when backing. We are pulling the P42 in a couple of weeks and I had been considering sending the 3 blade to him so he could work his magic but I had no idea where to find him.

would have a heart attack if they found out about it. My neighbor has an older 387 with an engine overheating problems and Catalina thinks that it is his prop. However,the boat was just pulled and the prop was checked and it is still standard. The boat/engine has always overheated when you run it at around 3000 rpm's. So far nobody can find anything wrong. This has been going on for over a year now.

The Kilian's have been in the prop business for several generations. The original company closed their business several years ago due to some family matters. Bob Kilian was working for Bay Prop's in Alameda, CA. They are the inventors of this prop. Tim has rejoined his dad in this business after several years. They make a unique product that is a very good solution for many boaters that are not interested in spending several thousand dollars on a folding or feathering prop. This product helps to minimize prop walk and will also allow a 2 bladed prop to perform closer to a 3 bladed prop. A 3 bladed prop with the non-slip tip can also perform better too. If you have any technical questions about what this prop can do for your vessel, you should contact Bob or Tim Kilian. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have no vested interest in these guys other than pointing out an excellent product that can solve a problem for many sailors at a very reasonable price.

I am amazed that reducing the diameter of a propeller and adding cylinderical segments to the blade ends can improve performance. I can only wonder why the U.S. Navy and the maritime industry has over looked this invention. Also the makers of millions of outboard engines are always looking to improve the performance of their product in order to gain a maeket advantage. I should think that they would be on this like a dog on a pork chop.

The reason that these folks don't do anything about it is they either don't know or don't believe or it's not cost effective. I bumped into the same kind of thing with my little device. Folks look at it and ask "why didn't someone think of this years ago?". The answer -- I don't know. Guess there has to be a first time for everything.

A user experience
I have had the non slip tip prop on my 34 for 2 years now. It does back up a bit straighter but still walks left a lot. No real diff in top speed. I wouldnt bother again.
