Hello everyone, has anyone replaced that non-skid surface on your deck? If so, can you tell where I can get it. Thanks.

Replacing "it"

I can't speak to the newer models(MKII etc) but the older models, and this is probably not news to you, have the non skid molded into the deck gel coat. To replace it exactly would involve make a negative mold of *each* of the panels, grinding off the existing non skid, applying new gelcoat or thickened epoxy to the area, pressing the negative pattern into it then removing it, and painting after cure. Don't think I'd like to go that route! Another option would be to grind it off and paint the area with some non skid granules mixed in. I've also thought about grinding the original off and rolling on thickened epoxy or gelcoat using a fancy texturing roller of the kind that can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot. Simpson Lawrence Co. has a colored product called Treadmaster which comes in panels that can be cut to shape and glued to the deck and looks ,on first glance, to be pretty pricey. But considering the cost of materials and the amount of labor involved the the other options, it might be the route to go. Go to http://www.sailnet.com and do a store search for non skid. You'll find it there. Good luck B.J.

It ain't that hard....

My last boat was a 1976 C22, and I refurbished the entire deck and hull. Non-skid areas.. 1..clean with a Interlux wax remover(twice) 2. mask 1/4 inch around all non-skid areas. 3. Mask off the rest of the deck surface where you "DON'T want non-skid....4. roll or brush 1 coat of Gray one step polyurethane (like interlux brightside), 5. while paint is still wet take a big saltsahaker (LIke a aluminum pint or 1/2 pint size) full of non-skid compound ( textured glass spheres) and sprinkle all your wet painted surfaces..sprinkle it on real heavy, and very importantly.... evenly. 6. after the paint dries take an air compressor and blow off the excess, you may even want to sweep off the excess. and 7. the last step roll a thin coat of the gray poly enamel over the sand and let it dry. When you pull all the masking materials your will be beautiful just like mine was...paint, sand, and masking materials....about $100.00. Time.. you can do it in a nice weekend.

That's what I did, Gary

Looks great and pretty easy. Looks MUCH better than Treadmaster, IMHO. LaDonna
