Non Skid information please

I'm wanting to redo the non skid surfaces of my 1987 H 37L while the boat is on the hard. I've read about a few different methods, ie. gel coat application, non skid paint from the stores, awlgrip with additive.Ant suggestions as to which route is the best way to go? I'd prefer to have it look as original as possible.Thanks again, this site has been wonderful for information.Joris

All of them will work.

Joris:All of these methods will work. I think that the gel coat was the original method. Unless you want to use different cleaners it is going to be the best. One part paint is OKAY.Two part paint will probably last as long as the gelcoat method.Gelcoat can be rolled on and is going to be about as permanent as it is going to get.

I painted my nonskid with pettit easypoxy in a light gray to match..used the non-skid additive on the second coat. It's been a year, looks good so far, and have better footing.

Rolled Mine

Four years ago I replaced the non skid on my H37C with a one part poly, added a flattening agent and added non skid frome the same manufacturer. I used Interlux and it has lasted beautifully.Be certain the glass is clean, no wax or dirt. I used lacquor thinner to clean my decks. Carefully outline all areas with 3M fine line tape. I tested one section with and without a primer coat and after four years cannot see a difference but my glass was absolutely clean. I rolled the entire boat not using a primer and used a 3" wide foam roller. Pick a calm day and have fun.
