Do it yourself

Somewhere in the photo archives is a very good article about replacing portlights. The author gave very good step by step directions that I printed out. We are in the process of replacing all the portlights on our 79 Hunter 30. The manufacturer of the portlights Hunter used was Gray Industries which has been bought by Bomar. The best price I have seen anywhere for the Bomar/Gray portlights is Sailnet. They charge WAY less and they usually have selected sizes on sale once or twice a year. Just waiting for the spring sale as we have 9 opening portlights that are being replaced. P.S. If you decide to do it yourself you should know that they don't come out without a fight. I don't know what Hunter used for a sealant buy my boat is 25 years old and the stuff was still flexable and held on tight. No evidence of leaks just broken/frozen dogs & foggy lenses. Good luck

You need to contact

Mark Plastics, at 909-735-7705. He was the supplier of the original ports. I used his replacements for my H34, and am well satisfied, They can be owner installed, and the cost is reasonable. He will sell you the proper siliglaze caulking too. Good luck!
