The hatch cover on our Cat - 22 makes a "skronking" noise when moved - can't see anything rubbing that would cause it. Anyone have any ideas for lubricating the glides, etc. Would appreciate your feed back.
I don't know what makes the noise but what ever you do DO NOT spray any type of lubricant on the sliders. I tried this in an attymept to stop the noise. All it did was to make the hatch slide very easily. This is not good, it's like walking on ice. Now anytime I step on the hatch while stepping the mast or doing anything else up front I have to be very careful not to break my neck. Good luck on this problem I'll be reading to see if there is a solution.
I have a 1979 25' for sale and a 1984 36' for sail. Both have the same problem. When I slide open the companion way hatch I often get a screech that seems to echo though the marina! It's the fiberglass on fiberglass, nails on a chalk board sound. On the 25' I can get to the slides along their whole length. On the 36' the hatch slides into a cover. I'm not sure how to lubricate back inside.
I have a C22 #10583 with the same problem. It is definetly a fingernail on the chalk board sound. My noise originate from the forward part of the hatch rubbing against the fiberglass bumps tha tkeep the hatch from twisting. What has happened is that over the years the fiberglass hatch has worn out the teak wood guides. This allows the hatch to drop just enough to barely catch the forward part of the hatch like a musical reed from hell. You must raise the hatch up a hair by shimming up the hatch in the wood guide area. This can be done with a little bit of epoxy. The wood guides could also be moved inboard slightly. This will also raise the hatch.
