When shifting from neutral to forward , there is a significant 'bang' noise ,also felt, definitly from the engine/transmission , on my Yanmar 2GM20F equipped 'H29.5'(95'). There is no such one whnen shifting to reverse gear , or from forward back. It is somehow less while the boat is moving forward at about 4knots or more. I know of other boat owners with same engine that don't have this problem. I have a folding prop now , but it was the same with fixed blade propeller. It is happening since anew , and still just few hundred hours on it. A friend with an older version of 2GM has same occurance , altough to a much lesser degree. . for shure this metalic 'bang' will cause on time to some mechanical wear. Do other has such problem ? Gordon , what can be done about that? Many thanks, Alex.

Noisy shift

The bang you are experiencing could be related to the engine RPM at the time of shifting. You might try slowing the idle speed of the engine. Also, if you have a single lever control, the shift might not be fully complete before the throttle is actuated. There should be NO change of engine speed until after the gear is engaged.
