Nonsuch 33 Sidney BC Canada
We just bought a Nonsuch 33 with a Wilcox Crittendon head that is now 20 years old. The head pumps out overboard okay, through a bewildering spiderweb of hoses, but will not suck any water in, not enough to even have some water in the bowl. The only way we can flush is by pouring a bucket of water into the bowl and pumping with the pedal down. I managed to track down a repair kit and replaced everything I could but I could not get the camshaft out of the inlet chamber so I could not replace any of those bits. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No, it is quite different. But thanks for that. And it is a raw water flush and seacock is open and I just replaced the line from the valve to t joint with vent hose and on to the head.

It's a W-C Newport...electric macerating toilet

http://www.thetford.com/HOME/Products/PermanentToilets/TecmaNewport/tabid/105/Default.aspx

Wilcox had problems with it from the get-go, especially the inlet pump...it was only on the market for a few years. I really do wish you'd asked questions before you put any money into it, 'cuz I'm afraid the only solution is a new toilet. But it's worth checking with the one person at Thetford (who bought W-C a few years ago and discontinued the entire W-C product line at the end of 2008) who MIGHT know how to salvage it....he was with W-C for a when that toilet was developed. Send an email to Jock Allpress at jallpress@thetford.com

You can download what passes for the manual from here:

If Jocko can't help you, the good news is, you can upgrade to a Raritan SeaEra Raritan Sea Era for a very reasonable price by going with the "conversion" (everything but the bowl, seat and lid-yes, your bowl WILL fit it!) http://www.raritaneng.com/products/toilets/electric/sea_era_conversion_kit.html The online store here can get it for you for about as good a price as you'll find anywhere.

Keep trying, Seadaddler...you'll eventually find a taker for that Headmate pump!

Re: It's a W-C Newport...electric macerating toilet

My head is a WC Imperial (if only) but I will contact Jocko and see what he can do for me. I am glad to know about these conversion kits. That could save some money when I bow to the inevitable and get a new head.
Right now, I had to reconnect the old head and, after a good bit of flushing, I noticed a major drip from the outflow hose. I put a 2nd clamp which slowed the drip. Am I supposed to use a sealant or tape to seal this older hose to the metal elbow section? If so, what should I use? Thanks for the help.

Aha...The Imperial was a wonderful MANUAL toilet

I should have known that's what it was when I saw your boat is a Nonsuch...it was the OEM toilet on all of 'em...a true bronze throne. The "Junior" was a smaller version of it.

Unfortunately W-C discontinued it even before Thetford bought W-C. I can send you an exploded drawing and price list if you'd like to send me an email (EMAIL...not possible to attach to a PM). Again, Jocko is your source for any hope, but I don't think he's gonna have a solution.
