Richard from Ashevill: I assume your talking about your C30. You can get away without a traveler on smaller boats but once you get past the 25' I think there is a disadvantage if you do not have one. Actually, I've never seen a C30 without one but I lead a sheltered life.The traveler only does one thing and that is to adjust the angle of attack, which is a very big deal. The other control that adjusts angle of attack is the mainsheet and it is a poor substitute for the traveler because once you start messing with teh mainsheet your also dealing with twist and draft position. If you do not have a traveler, then you have to make do with just the mainsheet.If you are interested in adding a traveler, I suggest you look at Garhauer marine.
