I do not have power at the switch panel in the cockpit but can start the engine by shorting out the soleniod..any ideas..just bought the boat at a salvage auction..all other power works John

Trace the wires
The wiring to the panel is not that complicated. You may have a bad connection. That's what confounded the previous owner of my H34, and turned out to be very simple. You might also thing about adding a starter button circuit in the engine box while you're at it, as an near-the-engine alternative.

fuse holder located near the rear of the alternator. If it's blown, the engine control panel won't have power. Sorry to repeat this but my first post was a victim of the 'phantom' delete.

still none
checked the fuse was not in the best of shape but not blown repllaced it anyway with a new connector fuse holder and breaker fuse ...still no power rechecked the two big connectors at back of engine appear ok.. thanks John

On the back of the ignition switch are two terminals. Short them together with a pair of insulated pliers and see if you get the alarm going off. If you do, the ignition switch is bad. Switches are about $35.00. If not then you still arn't getting power to the harness/panel/engine. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, GA imd_ga@hotmail.com

Let me go back to the basics, Do you have a buzzer sound when turning on the key at the panel? Does the buzzer change sound when you push the starter? Don't have a multi meter..but do have a 12 volt test light..no buzzer no power at panel...havnt tested back of alt yet though nor breaker panel John

Found main fuse in engine compartment
I had the same issue after motoring all day and finally traced it down to a fuse on the port side of the engine toward the back/stern of the compartment. It's an inline fuse with a plastic holder and it was hiding behind the main wiring bundle. Yours may be located slightly different since our engine has been replaced once. I just had to reach into the compartment, grab the harness, tweak the fuse holder open, reposition the fuse (it was still good), and close the fuse holder - all with one hand since I couldn't get both in there. Sort of tricky, but it only took 20 minutes and it restored all power and I didn't have to short the starter with my screwdriver to start it anymore.
