No Electrical power

An intended day on the water ended up being a day of dead batteries. 2006 Hunter 27. Pulled them off and they tested to replace. No big deal, right? Wrong!

Hooked up the new batteries, zero power on any DC side of the house. Checked breakers, etc. zero.

Where would you start? First time trying to isolate electrical, so any tips are very appreciated and well received.

All my best!

Assuming you have a voltmeter (basic requirement), if it were my boat, I would start at the battery source and follow the power leads to each junction/connection/terminal. Test both sides of each junction for voltage until I found the voltage break point. That has worked for me over the years of tracing electrical problems. Others might have their ideas as well.

Please let us know what you find.

Make sure you 120VAC battery charger is reset. Mine goes off when batteries are bad or changed.

I just looked at a picture of your 12VDC panel and the 120VAC Combo panel.
If you are hooked to shore power, you should push one of the 120VAC buttons to turn it back on.

PS: Once the 120VAC side is on, the DC part should light back up.

Tell me a bit more, Jim. So you’re seeing something on my Combo that might need to be pressed? Could you describe what you see?

Thanks!

Yeah, no dice on that one unfortunately. Even pulled it off completely to check back side connections.

Looks like there are two panels controlling DC on your boat. A DC breaker panel and a DC battery selector panel that has a few breakers on it as well. Do you have power at the battery selector and is the main DC power switch on that panel also in the on position?

I didn’t have my voltmeter with me today, so I’m going to go back up and test that directly. I did have the batt selector in on POS though for dual bank. I tripped the batt charger breaker when I first connected the new batteries, so I know I had flow to the floret panel for a moment at least.

When changing batteries I always turn my Selector Switch to OFF.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions! Traced it back to a simple ground fault issue. Took a bit of time to trace, but found it and was back in business right away.
