Attachment where side stay from hull to mast goes is bent and screw, although seemingly tight, may not be secure. There seems to be no way to access underside except to cut a hole and then perhaps install a hatch cover to secure integrity.

Know this might not sound descriptive as i am not a "real' sailor. I would attach a picture but there does not seem to be an option to do this.

Any thoughts for an old lady?

I sold my Capri 16.5 several years ago but IIRC you may be able to get to the backside of the chainplate from inside the cuddy. Our 2004 had a partial bulkhead between the cuddy and the side decks but it was open at the top. If you DO go in the cuddy, make sure you tie the hatch up so it doesn't close with you in there.

Also, you might want to join the Capri 16.5 Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Catalina_16-5 I haven't been there in a while but in the past it was a pretty helpful bunch of sailors.

If you need replacement parts try Catalina Direct.

Fun boat and I'm really missing ours this year since there's not enough water in the lake for the big boat.
