NJ to Block Isl.

I own a 1988 Catalina 27 of which is sailed mostly on the Bay.I do have some limited good weather ocean sailing experience and I am planning a trip to sail her from the southern part of NJ to Block Island during the month of June and would like to ask a few questions. First, is this a vessel one would take on this trip? Second, if yes to the first question, would one take the outside of Long Island or up through Hell Gate and the Long Island Sound? Thanks......

Block Island or Bust

Take it outside around the southern coast of Long Island. It's a great trip - but make sure you cross the NY/NJ shipping channel during daylight hours.

i don't know much about south shore sailing, but seems like you will have very limited acess to ports on the way; the sound, of course, is full of them.
