I have found a Nissan 2 stroke 8 hp Long shaft. It is electric start.

I like the weight (68 lbs).

The motor starts quickly and runs well. Anyone with an opinion on this motor? It looks like it will fit well on the Mac 26S transom. I know most people have gone to 4 strokes. My previous engine was a 4 stroke, but I didn't like the weight.

Any experience and opinions are valued. Thanks.

Thank you for the input. I have checked the lakes in my area and there are "currently" no restrictions.

Burns a lot more gas. I have the 8 hp Nissan 2 stroke and use it for my dinghy. Its and older one but runs just fine. I got it real cheap because it was running a little rough when I bought it. There were no rattles, knocks, and compression was good so I figured I could get it to run. The first time out I was with Novelman and we launching out of Ventura and neither outboards would start. I found a guy to fix the Honda (just needed carb to be boiled and tuned) and figured we could row the dink. Honda worked beautifully for the trip. When I got home and checked the Nissan the screw that holds the float in place had backed off and was loose. She runs really well now.
I have a 15 hp 2 stroke Johnson on the Cat 27 and I am concerned about gas consumption. I know it's a sailboat but Two Harbors is a long ride in light wind.
Still getting use to the mixing adjustment. I don't want to run it too lean or too rich.

I have an electric start Tohatsu 9.9 two stroke and I love it. It's very dependable and moves the boat well at half throttle in calm conditions. I figure about a gallon an hour with a safety margin.

Hi Sailing Gator,
I have a 1992 Nissan 8HP electric start with charger. As a motor it is great (very easy to start and runs like a dream), the only problem is with limited movement inside the outboard well - the handle hits the side of the well and restricts movement (I am not aware of any particular makes or models that can alleviate this problem, but others may be able to make comment here). My 26S gets along very smoothly at medium revs - no real need to ever use high revs - except in panic!.

I am looking at changing the prop as I currently run a 8.5 x 8 and find I don't have sufficient trust in reverse for docking easily in wind or current - will probably go down to a 7 or 6.5 pitch prop.

If you are in the process of buying this second hand and cannot determine the year model I found Nissan Outboards (US) very helpful in that regard - just sent an email off from their web site, with my model and serial number and they shot a reply straight back to tell me the year model.

I have an NS8B on my '93 Hunter 23.5. It is original and has been very reliable. I don't baby it or take as good care of it as I probably should. It has been unused for some time now but started up with little fuss.
