Does anyone use a Nissan 6 hp, 4-stroke, single cylinder motor on their C-22? My son is shopping for one, and the weight looks acceptable. One question we have about this motor is whether the vibration is acceptable? It would seem to us that a single cylinder 4-stroke would have vibration problems, unless the flywheel balances it out. (We currently have a 2-stroke, twin cylinder). Also, where do you get parts for Nissan motors? Are Nissan motors reliable? Thanks, Aldo

Seems OK

I sold a nearly new Mercury 4.0 HP 4 stroke and bought a new 6 HP Nissan 4 stroke for the increased power in the SF Bay area. They are identical in everyway except the HP rating and paint color (black vs grey). The 6 HP does seems to vibrate more, but I don't see it as a problem. After the breakin period, the motor has smoothed out noticably. Fuel use is about 0.4 gph vs 0.6. Starts easily and all indications are it is and will be reliable. It pushes the C-22 to 5-6 kts, which is about hull speed. I'm pleased with the motor.

Very realiable!

I had the Nissan 9.9 on my C22. I found it to be very reliable. I would recommend them.

vibrates a little

Yes this engine vibrates a little. But at 57 lbs for the long shaft you have to love it. Everything in life is a compromise. I do recommend this motor. It is clean and eats very little gas

Runs like a top

I've got a '95 two-stroke Nissan 5HP on my C-22 and it generally runs really well. I just bought the boat and motor in March after it had been sitting in the water all winter (the price was right). So far, the most problem-free part of the package has been the motor. It routinely starts on the first pull with no hesitation. The few minor problems I've had with it pertained to a slightly incorrect oil/gas mixture -- my fault, obviously. However, I've had experience with numerous Johnson and Evinrude motors, and I've never found them to be quite as finicky about the oil/gas mix as the Nissan -- this motor seems to want a dead-on exact 50:1 mix (not 49.8:1 or 50.3:1). But really -- it's not a big deal. As long as I've measured the oil and gas correctly, the motor runs better and more reliably than any of those Johnsons or Evinrudes.

Nissan

Aldo................ I have a Nissan 8HP... 2 stroke........ they are made by Tohatsu Motors (I was told that all Mercury motors under 15 HP are also made by them). So you can look in the yellow pages for any Nissan, Tohatsu or Mercury dealer for parts. You should have several dealers in MD. My motor is absolutely reliable...... always starts on the first or second pull. No complaints from me at all with this motor. Just make sure you get a long shaft (20").... you will not be happy with a short shaft. Good luck!!
