nissan 5 hp carburetor

i have a nissan 5 hp 2 cycle on the back of an '88 nunter 23, actually it is in the shop. I assume this was the original motor and therefore was presumably made in '87 or 88. We cleaned out fuel tank and lines three times added a fuel filter but engine still quit and leaked gasoline. Now mechanic has decided the problem is the float and needle, and is going to replace them as soon as he locates parts.

any suggestions for parts would be appreciated, any other future problems in this area i can anticipate or diagnoses??

so far it has been a windy summer and I have not be becalmed and stranded on my lake and it is an ok exercise to sail right to the marina slip although some folks seem puzzled to see me tacking in the marina

Five years ago I paid $35 for a shift handler kit through an authorized service place. I notice they have it here for $39.99. Not bad.
