Night Vision Scopes

I have a Gen 1 scope which leaves a lot to be desired in terms of clarity and range. I have used an ITT gen 3 which was just amazing. However, it was like $5K new some years ago. I think gen 3's still run $2500 plus. Anyhow, they advertise Gen 2's for $600-1800. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some subjective comparison as to how a gen 2 stacks up vs. a gen 3.

Gen 1's are crap

Mine failed after a year. The tubes leak and there is no such thing as service or repair. I have heard the digital ones that electronically enhance the starlight are the best, but beyond that my knowledge is limited.

I have no problem with mine, a 'marine' unit. However, it just isn't as good as I'd like. That does not mean it isn't valuable or worth the money coming into a commercial harbor at night, rather that I'm used to it and know that there are much better units there. My decision point is whether a gen 2 is worth spending the money on now or sitting back and getting a gen 3 in the farther future.. or not at all. So, some gen 2 feedback would be really useful.

If you are using night vision, get a PAC-4 for your weapon. They are an infrared beam for targeting, invisible to your enemy(unless they are using night vision).

Try a pair of water proof, low light, stabilized binoculars. They are a very good alternative.
