I want to add some vents to our C30. I was planning on installing 2 small (3") vents. One above the Galley and one above the Head. I want to leave the vents open during the week when the C30 is in her berth and the Admiral and I are at home. (250 miles away). Should I use passive Nicro vents or Nicro 2000 Solar vents. What has been your experiences with ventalition ? Thank you. Jerry Magnuson S/V "Defiance"

You will like them.

I installed a MiniVent 1000 solar in my front hatch on my c27. I already have a small hatch in the head, but can't leave it open when I am away from the boat. The vent does not leak and has made a huge improvement in the air quality on board. I also noticed a reduction of mildew on board. The 1000 acts as a passive unit at night. Comes with a shut off and bug screen.

One of each?

If two solar vents (preferable) is too much for your budget, it seems that one of each would be a good compromise.

Nicro 24hr

Jerry, I'm a fan of the Nicro 24hr vents to keep the air circulating through my boat 24hrs a day no matter what the wind is doing. I have set up the intake in the forward hatch and 1 or more exhaust vents in the highest possible part of my last 4 boats. Because the fans themselves are Not powerful, I think it is important to set them up to help the normal convection currents in the boat move the air through the boat. Suck it in low and blow it out high. I had a bad experience with the standard 24hr solar in the forward hatch while motoring directly into steep waves because the waves breaking on the bow just like a beach rolled right up and in the vent. Previously I had crashed through (quartering) waves while sailing big enough to soak me at the wheel with NO leaks - but it can happen. I should have taken out the vent and put in the supplied deck plate. I have since replaced the forward hatch vent with the Nicro Powervent 2 or 3000 - what ever the model is that is square and has a switch and a sliding sleeve that totaly blocks any possibility of leaks. Pouring or wind blown driving rain has also never been a problem with any model. In 8 years on 4 different boats lines snagging on the forward hatch vent happen no more frequently than snagging on the hatch itself - maybe a couple times, so I ran a little screw through the sides of the solar 24hr. The Powervent is set up differently so it can't just pop off. Expensive , but worth it to me. Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656
