I was wondering where to place my Nicro vent on my 89' Hunter 30. I don't want to put it in the forward hatch, and can't put it in the rear near the head because of the dodger. I was thinking around the mast or just stern of the mast on the port or starboard side but don't want to effect the structure in that area. I don't mind going through the deck, but do I have a wood core and need to epoxy the exposed area? Thanks!

In The Center Hatch

Ken, I put mine in the center hatch (88 30'). If you are calling that the rear hatch then I don't understand. I can't imagine a dodger extending that far forward unless you unrig the main sheet and lay it down.

Forward Hatch

I put mine in the forward hatch with no problems. I figured that if I screw it up then I only have to replace the hatch and no one is the wiser. I didn't screw it up, just cut the hole with a hand saber saw. It works fine, We take it out when we head out to sail and put in the blank cover, we lost the first one overboard when tacking. It is great for ventilation.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who lost a vent while sailing! A beautiful day with 15-20 knot winds; "Prepare to tack!" - "Ready!" - "Coming about!" ....splash! ("nuts!"). I agree...the forward hatch is best for the reasons already given. Jim Maroldo s/v: Lil' Wass Ett
