Jim and Joan sailed outside from St. Augustine to the entrance of St. Charles River where he ran aground and got towed off by U.S. Boats.. This is the sad news to report to all of you so everyone, give Jim heck on this one! Arrival back in Maryland will be next weekend.

They had to come back early so Miss Joan has a meeting to go to called a board meeting with the girls or is actually a real board meeting Miss Joan??? I know I am going to have to run to them that hills. Ha.

Good to hear from my little brother and sister. Lordy me, I just cannot figure how they put up with a Crazy.

A sailor that hasn't run aground is not really a sailor!!!!

And to think that Jim got into Canoe Neck Creek without running around but he does it elsewhere. Good Grief.

Sounds like a cup-a-ground Java to me. ;-)

We actually jumped from St Augustine to Charleston, SC, then ran the ditch up to New River (Calabash). Then jumped out again to Wilmington (Cape Fear). Back in the ditch between Wrightsville beach bridge to Figure Eight bridge we ran aground in the channel!!! BoatUS came and dragged us off. Said yup this is a crazy spot.
First time in 13years of having to call a towing service, a real bummer but that's what I pay for...

We continue running north....

Uncle Crazy Dave has told me you're well-rounded. It's nice to see you're also well-grounded. ;-)

I personally like using the depth finder to detect bottom not nearly restricting lol

Now according to rumor you are officially a true sailor

Happy Easter

Jim, we are nearing the Figure 8 bridge. Can you give details of what led to the grounding? Active captain Showa a bad shoaling spot about 1.75nm south of the bridge. Is this where you grounded?

Just spoke with Jim Seamans and eta at Cobbs Island, MD is 11 p.m. tonight. It is nippy but both Joan and Jim are dressed for the weather. Now he tells me he ran aground in the Dismal going down south but first time for Boat US last week.

We came through the same spot today and did not touch bottom. BUT, it was very bad compared to when we came through here in November. The channel is nearly impassable. You have to go outside the charted channel and pass within 15 feet of some private docks to find 8ft MLW. I would give Jim a pass on this one. The sailboat in front of us was about 75 off the docks and he hit. He said there was no gradual swallowing like you get with most shoaling areas in the ICW. He said he was in plenty of water one minute and on the bottom the next. This is a new shoaling area so Active Captain did not have much good info. I just updated AC so others can avoid this issue.
