Newport to Ensenada

The Newport to Ensenada (N2E) sail race is the largest race on the west coast. The N2E Yacht Race is a 125-nautical-mile International Yacht Race. First run in 1948. There are numerous different classes of Maxi, Orca, PHRF and Cruising classes (spinnaker, gennaker and non spinnaker). There are also perpetual trophies for the mfg classes for Catalina and Benateau for the first to finish on corrected time. But sadly no Hunter perpetual trophy.

I would like to suggest that Hunter promote their sailboats not only as a family cruising boat but also as a exciting and fun performance cruising sailboat. It would be great to also see a Hunter perpetual trophy for the fastest corrected Hunter sailboat each year in the N2E.

I tried about five years ago but wasn't able to generate any interest at that time. Perhaps with new ownership now, there might be a change. Why don't you send them something and I'll give it another push on this end.

After the Aegean incident, do you really think Hunter-Marlowe corporate will have ANY appetite for this??

I count only 14 Hunters in the Southern California PHRF fleet of nearly 600 yachts compared to over 100 J-boats. Maybe that's one reason there appears little interest?

Oh Yea...

Jackdaw: you are SO right. I never considered that. I imagine the race would be pretty radioactive to them.

King's: they're all in the race...

Hunter H376 San Diego
Hi Rick. The N2E has always intrigued me. I keep my H376 in San Diego and have always thought about doing this "just for fun". But the logistics starting in Newport have stumped me. The couple times I've been to Newport I know moorings and guest slips are very limited. Your thoughts.......

There's an overnight free anchorage up in Newport Harbor at Lido Key which is a possibility for you. Also, FYI, Dana Point is only 10 n.mi. from Newport; essentially, it's closer to Newport than Long Beach by a couple of miles plus it's on your side. There are two overnight anchorages there at Dana Point--one in the east basin, the other (nicer one) in the west basin. Run 60 n.mi. from Pt. Loma to Dana Point in one long day then finish the trip to Newport the morning of the race. I'm sure you'd have lots of "company" also coming up from DPYC. Also (click the URL site below) the Bahia Cornithian YC will be accepting reservations for dock space for the N2E 2015 race week beginning March 1. However, it may require membership at a SCYA (or other) yacht club; I don't know. The phone number is posted there. Now you're set!!

Stay in Dana Point! We do a lot of races that start in Newport and its only a couple hours up in the morning of the race! Relax in a guest slip with other races! It's a great spot!
