Newport to Ensenada race

Rick D. Yeah we are sooo excited. I checked on Attitude Adjustment's handicap. Seems you are in a bit better shape than we are. We missed NB by 1 point. So we are gonna have to be fast. Right now we are spotting an old Columbia 80 seconds per mile... ughhh. So I was thinking maybe we could have a mini get together for the regular ones here that post. We are shoving off on Wed. Sail to Oceanside for cocktail hour, then up Thursday to check in and get on our can. Perhaps if we get a group we could monitor a VHF freg or even exchange cell phone #s and hook up at the pregame celebration. We are gonna have on our Whiskey Chaser crew shirts. Man on man would I like to meet ya and have a litte strategy session and an adult beverage. So to all who might be doing the race... chime in here and lets get together. Rick, by the way, we have good friend up there where you are. s/v Wing "n" Prayer. Tis a Cat 38 but we forgive them for that :) Cheers Rick

Newport - Ensenada Race

I'm doing the race on a friends boat, a Pearson 42 ketch. We're going non-spin cruiser class - it's maily an excuse to sail down to Ensenada without the wives, drink some cervezas, eat some fish tacos, smoke a cigar and come home.

...for the start. I was at BCYC last year, but I was out of Marina del Rey. If we go to the party, I'll keep an eye out for you. We'll be staying at Coral. Don't know when we are heading back. Good luck! I'll look for Wing 'n Prayer. Rick D.

Yeah tis kewl.. I understand its a one legger for you to set sail to Ensenda. Im goin on a limb here... my cell phone is 623 570 6080. Give me a call if you make it to the pregame celebration.. or obviously we can hook up in Ensenada where we pick up our trophy for first place...:) Cheers Rick

Got The Number, Rick...

...and I printed out the tread for my file. Now you can delete the post if you wish. I hope this year to get in a bit earlier than last. We were just over 41 hours to finish w/o any motor time and still took a second. This race was so slow, I was worried our decision to not motor was wrong, but I think it was Ok in that we did keep on moving and never did any 360's. Our average speed for the first 16 hours was just two knots! Rick D.
