Excellent Boat

As I recall it's an S & S design. They are very fast. A number still race competitively in SoCal. I think the downsides are just what you'd expect from that vintage of any of her contemporary designs, such as the Catalina 38 or Ericson 38. No need to elaborate for you I'm sure. Merry Christmas. Rick D. By the way, if you have not already, you should seriously consider joining the Arizona Yacht Club. It is a quality organization and you'd gain a lot by associating with it.

I always thought the Newports

were a C&C design, but perhaps a number of builders made them. If this is a C&C boat, it probably is representative of all the boats from that company: above average quality; state of the art materials (for that time); and usually very fast racers also used for cruising. In short, if you can find one in good condition, it will probably be a great boat. Having owned a smaller C&C years ago, I would say that C&C made some really nice boats. The only common trait I ever noted with them were poor window designs that mostly always resulted in the need to replace them. Not a big deal. I would also carefully check a balsa cored deck for leaks or soft spots, particularly around the mast and anywhere fittings go through the deck. This could be a big deal.

Warren's Right; I'm Wrong

I think they were C&C (most of them anyway). See this link which will help. The 41 and 41 Mk ll are there too. By the way, I almost bought a customized new 32 Gulf in 1990. I had wanted a Gulf 41 which was a small pilothouse version of the 41 but it was a bit too much for me at the time. (my wife saw the Hunter Vision 32 and that was the end of that discussion... no regrets) Rick D.
